Kristen's October Update

Hello everyone!

Before I left on my trip, I shared some travel tips and now that I’ve returned home, I wanted to share how it went!

Day 1-3 - Galway, Ireland

We took a red-eye flight to Dublin and then immediately caught a train to Galway. We spent the next day and a half exploring and falling in love with the beautiful city. We had so many great meals and snacks and spent hours wandering around the streets.

The next day, we rented a car and drove to see an old Castle from the 1600s and the Cliffs of Moher. It was a beautiful day and as the clouds and rain broke, we got an amazing view of the Cliffs.

We lucked out with the weather! It was raining pretty hard, but broke just as we arrived.

Day 4-7 - Dublin, Ireland

We took the train back to Dublin on our fourth day of the trip and were met with more great foods and charming pubs and streets. We saw a lot of the traditional Dublin sights like the Book of Kells and the Guinness Storehouse, but the best part was being in such a lovely city. We found everywhere we went had an area of welcoming and cozy feeling and we both loved it so much!

One of the coolest things we had the opportunity to do while in Dublin was to see the house where I studied abroad! It was an amazing mansion from the 19th century that is graciously being rented to Duquesne University to house their Duquesne in Dublin program. It is a stunning building and I was so excited to revisit where I spent my four months in Ireland. It was just as beautiful as I remember. ❤️

Day 7-14 - Switzerland

After flying to Switzerland, we spent a lot of our time with family, but still saw some awesome things. We went up to the Alps one day and again, were blessed with great weather. Being up that high really makes you feel like you are on top of the world. It is indescribably breathtaking.

We also got to visit several cool towns:

A famous wooden bridge in Lucerne that dates back to 1333. A fire destroyed a large part of it back in 1998, but they managed to rebuild a lot of it.

Walled city of Morat with a long history.

We got to visit with family up in their chalet. We had the best fondue of my life and some delicious homemade liquor made with locally distilled ingredients. We were even lucky enough to catch a few glimpses of the majestic Alps before a nasty storm rolled in.

My family’s chalet up in the mountains. I am convinced there are no better views in the world than up here.

Finally, I wanted to share some beautiful photos of a beautiful country. It was so wonderful to visit with all my family and to return to the country I lived in for four months. I am so thankful that I was able to take this trip and am so excited to start planning my next one!🙂

This was the magnificent view from right outside my relative’s house where we were staying. I have concluded that in Pennsylvania, we have hills, not mountains.

One of my favorite things about being surrounded that high up by mountains is that the clouds hug the mountains. You can watch the clouds move through as the day progresses and it feels like you should be able to touch them. It is surreal.

I hope you enjoyed hearing a little bit about our vacation and I hope to have more trips like this to share soon!
